Global Survey of Experts – Norms in Space

The purpose of this project is to generate knowledge about how existing and emerging norms of responsible behaviour in outer space related to safety and sustainability – developed mostly in the civil and commercial sectors – can inform space-based military activities and norms to enhance security within the space environment.

As part of this research, we are conducting a global survey of experts who work and study in diverse fields related to outer space. The survey is anonymous and respondents are asked to participate in a personal capacity only. This process is intended to serve as a peer review of our initial classification of agreements, standards and practices from which norms exist, are emerging, or may emerge. Our goal is to gather perspectives beyond our own, and to generate additional ideas for us to pursue in the next phase of our work.

It includes a number of open-ended questions. Depending on the length of your responses, it could take up to 30 minutes to complete. Here is the survey link: https://ploughshares.typeform.com/to/pTzl0r

The survey closes Sunday, 7 June 2020.
